The Little Free Cinema

Mark Loeser

Pinhole Cinematography,
2 minutes 44 seconds, 16mm

In collaboration with the Toronto Outdoor Picture Show, the BUS collective is bringing the Little Free Cinema to the preshow programming this weekend! Showing in the cinema, for one night only, is Mark Loeser’s Pinhole Cinematography – a section from his film LIGHTLOVEFILM (1999).

Where: Christie Pits, Toronto (east of the screen)
When: Sunday, June 28 from 6-9pm

In Mark’s words “These two consecutive 16mm shots were filmed with pierced tinfoil in place of a normal lens. The filmmaker is seen piercing one pinhole lens in the foil after another, creating offset, simultaneous exposures. At the end of each section, he opens a blade and the viewer watches both the foil and their view be cut open, flooding the frame with unfocused light. These shots were filmed at a slow 8 frames per second to allow more light per frame. No computer was used at any point. These pinhole cinematography excerpts are from LIGHTLOVEFILM, a 1999 set of experiments by Mark Loeser.”

Mark Loeser is a Motion Film Lab Operator & Preservation Tech. @ Toronto Metropolitan University. Film & Video maker since '89.
